Cyndi Lauper said, “Girls just want to have fun,” but I say, “Teachers want to have fun, too!” Oftentimes, we create activities for kids and don’t realize how much fun they can be for us. My create-a-creature activity is a perfect example of this–not only do kids love it, but it is a great (fun!) team-building activity for adults, too!
This team-building activity for adults is perfect for the beginning of your next staff meeting, at a staff luncheon or party, or even at your own personal get-together!
A few months ago, I hosted a party for a friend of mine. The evening had arrived, and the adults were looking for something fun to do. My brother-in-law suggested we play the game “exquisite corpse” (which I’ve renamed to the more kid-friendly, “creature-a-creature”). It just so happened that I have that project as a FREEBIE in my Teachers Pay Teachers store. You can get a copy of my template along with all the instructions in my TPT store HERE.
This team-building activity is easy and super fun! Keep reading to see pictures and hear how to do this and/or watch this Facebook LIVE event where I show you four handy ways to use my create-a-creature project! Click on the image below to see this video.
Instructions
All you need for this project is a piece of paper and something to draw with. First, fold a piece of paper into thirds from top to bottom.
Keep it folded, and have the first person draw a head and neck on the top third of the page. Make sure to extend the neck just a little bit into the second third of the page for the next person to use as a reference mark.

Then, fold the first part back to hide what has been drawn and expose the middle third of the paper. Hiding the first section, have the first person pass it to the second person. The second person will now draw a body on the middle third of the page – making sure to extend the lines of the body down into the last third of the page for the last person to see.
Repeat, folding the page back so what was drawn can’t be seen, and then passing it to the third person. The third person adds feet and legs (or tail!). Once everyone has drawn their part, pass it back to the first person and unfold and reveal what sort of creature was created!
No doubt, everyone will laugh and enjoy seeing the crazy combinations!

This team-building activity for adults will engender lots of laughter, smiles, and discussions! No worries if someone doesn’t think they can “draw”–it all works out fine in the end and adds to the variety! Once everyone has finished, you can hang up your creations and let everyone else admire (and laugh at) the creatures.

If you decide to try this project as a team-building activity for adults, snap a photo and tag me on social media – I’d love to see what you make! You can find me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
